When I went to Vienna last May one of my main goals was to eat great food, and not break the bank. One of the things I hate the most when travelling is getting hungry and having to find somewhere on the fly to eat. Sure sometimes you stumble on that hidden gem. But in all reality in most cases the best places I ate at were places I had been recommended, or that I had researched.
Everywhere I have listed I visited on my last trip there. From coffee houses to restaurants.
Tip: On every trip I take I create a google map list and star all the places that I would love to visit/eat at. There is also a place where you can make notes. I especially find that helpful as you can end up with a lot of places on your list, and not remember why you added it.
L’Amour du Pain has the best Almond croissant I have ever had. If you also love almond croissants this place has to be on your list. We went here on our first day with hopes to beat the jet lag. The egg sandwich I had was also amazing. They have seating inside and outside, however this is quite a busy place, so we were unable to get a spot on the patio.

I wish I had more pictures of Glacis Beisl, but unfortunately the jet lag was getting to me by this point. I also wasn’t super hungry. This will be the last time I plan a larger meal on the first day of a trip as my body just wants to sleep by the time supper rolls around.
Glacis Beisl serves classic viennese dishes with a twist. The food was amazing – as my friend says – I didn’t eat much unfortunately. What I find unique about it is that it is a garden oasis in the middle of the city. It was super pretty.
Reservations are recommended. Depending on what day and time you want to visit they do book up well in advance. Reservations are recommended.

I love the concept of Vollpension. They hire “grannies and grandpas” to work at the cafe, giving them something to do in retirement and make an income. As for the decor, they want you to feel like you could be visiting your grandparents. Their food is also pretty good.
I can’t remember exactly what we got but one plate was a classic viennese breakfast of veggies, cheese, and meat.
Must get: The Buchtel! These are yeast buns filled with jam and topped with vanilla sauce.
There are two locations in Vienna.
One evening we decided to check out the Prater (amusement park). I wasn’t so keen on carnival food so we decided to check out NENI and we did not regret it. Everything we had was really good! As it was a year ago I don’t quite remember what I got but I think it was the Gebrannte Melanzani.
Tip: This is a great spot for sunset!
If you are researching where to eat in Vienna you would have already encountered Cafe Central.
Cafe Central is a historic cafe in Vienna’s city centre. It was originally built in the mid 1800’s and though the years has had prominent figures in history visit.
I would say that it is probably one of the most beautiful cafes in Vienna, and because of that it is very busy.
If you are in Vienna this is a must do activity. However, after reading many blogs, and watching quite a few videos on Youtube we decided to just stop here for coffee. Many reviewers mentioned that food and desserts are expensive and that they were okay but not amazing.
Vienna is big on their coffee culture. Even though I usually get oat milk in my coffees I opted for a classic Kaffe mit Schlagobers (coffee with whipped cream).
TIP: We arrived at Cafe Central 30 mins prior to opening, and there was a bit of a line when they opened. If you are not a morning person you will want to make reservations well in advance (I would say a month). As we were only getting coffee it is better in general to not go during lunch or dinner.
I stumbled on this place when I was looking for restaurants to eat at nearby our hotel. It has the most beautiful patio. We went there for breakfast. It was nothing fancy, and it was not too bad of a price.
Dining here reminds me of dining in a garden in the middle of the countryside. I just loved the vibe.
This was my favourite experience I had in Vienna. On the outskirts of the city there are these wine taverns known as heurigers. You basically hike through these vineyards and a lot of them have a pop up stand selling glasses of wine. A few also serve food.
I am going to do a blog post detailing my experience. Once it is done there will be a link here to read about it.
